Why placement temperature is hard in Tennessee
Tennessee summers are hot and consistently humid, with a season running from late spring into early autumn. As across the Southeast, humidity undercuts evaporative aggregate cooling and keeps overnight temperatures high enough that night placement gives back less than it costs in schedule.
The specification environment
TDOT specifications carry hot-weather concreting requirements and mass concrete provisions including peak temperature and differential limits for qualifying elements.
Your project document governs, not the general standard. Special provisions and owner requirements routinely tighten TDOT limits, and on private industrial work the owner’s specification is usually the stricter of the two. Send us what you are actually held to.
Where cooling fits before you call us
The cheapest control is always to move the pour. If a night or early-morning placement gets you inside spec, take it. After that, shaded and sprinkled stockpiles, chilled batch water, and ice replacement each buy you something, and all three are bounded by how much water your mix design allows.
Liquid nitrogen injection is what you reach for when that allowance runs out, when the cooling has to be adjusted per load rather than fixed at batching, or when an approved mix cannot be altered. Compare the methods before you assume you need us.
