Why placement temperature is hard in Florida
Florida has the least seasonal relief of any state in the lower 48. The cooling season is effectively most of the year in the south of the state, and humidity is high throughout, which means evaporative methods underperform and mix water is doing all the work. Overnight temperatures stay warm, so night placement buys less here than almost anywhere.
The specification environment
FDOT maintains detailed mass concrete provisions, including peak temperature and differential limits and a required thermal control plan, alongside standard hot-weather placement temperature requirements. Florida work is among the most explicitly specified in the country on this subject.
Your project document governs, not the general standard. Special provisions and owner requirements routinely tighten FDOT limits, and on private industrial work the owner’s specification is usually the stricter of the two. Send us what you are actually held to.
Where cooling fits before you call us
The cheapest control is always to move the pour. If a night or early-morning placement gets you inside spec, take it. After that, shaded and sprinkled stockpiles, chilled batch water, and ice replacement each buy you something, and all three are bounded by how much water your mix design allows.
Liquid nitrogen injection is what you reach for when that allowance runs out, when the cooling has to be adjusted per load rather than fixed at batching, or when an approved mix cannot be altered. Compare the methods before you assume you need us.

Coastal exposure raises the stakes. In a chloride environment a thermal crack is a path for water and salt to reach reinforcement, which is why Florida specifications are as prescriptive as they are.
